About

Kate Muir

Kate Muir is a women’s health campaigner, filmmaker and writer. Over the past four years, Kate’s campaigning work has created profound change in women’s health in the UK, bringing the menopause conversation to a massive audience. As well as writing the book Everything You Need to Know About the Menopause (2022), she pitched and produced two ground-breaking menopause documentaries for Channel 4, and recruited Davina McCall as the presenter for Sex, Myths and The Menopause. A million more women have gone on hormone replacement therapy since the documentaries aired. Last year, Kate produced Davina McCall’s Pill Revolution, also for Channel 4, and her new book Everything You Need to Know About the Pill delves deeper into the effect of hormones on mental health.

On a mission to eliminate taboos, increase inclusion and explain the latest science, Kate delivers a variety of workshops and talks on the Menopause and Women’s Health for corporate audiences, with previous clients including Lloyds, Kingfisher, Bloomberg, the Ministry of Defence and the NHS. She wants to include male allies in the conversation, and offers an enlightening Menopause for the Boardroom talk too. She has also spoken at Cambridge, Leicester, Queens Belfast, Newcastle and Brighton universities, as well as taking the Menopause Roadshow to the Hay Literary Festival. Book Kate Muir today for an informative, honest and empowering speech on the Menopause and women’s health.

Enjoying a successful career as a writer, Kate is the author of three novels – West Coast, Left Bank and Suffragette City. She also worked for seven years as the Chief Film Critic for The Times, and as a columnist for The Times in Washington, Paris and New York. Throughout her career, Kate has passionately advocated for women’s rights and female empowerment, working with Time’s Up and as a board member of Reclaim the Frame during her media career – a charity promoting of female-led films. She is a founding member and activist for The Menopause Charity, and she has worked with MP Carolyn Harris to change the law surrounding the menopause. Recently, Kate gave a speech to the parliamentary committee on menopause and dementia, talking about how hormone replacement therapy may protect women’s brains against Alzheimer’s.

Smashing through stigma, Kate Muir is a leading Menopause campaigner who wants to make the challenges experienced by women heard, loud and proud. Working with police and local councils, corporate clients and educational establishments, Kate increases understanding of the Menopause, breaking down misconceptions created by centuries of patriarchy. Engaging audiences with honesty, wit and empathy, Kate helps to ensure that women have access to hormone replacement therapy and don’t feel ashamed to speak out about their experiences of the Menopause. She is currently also a member of the Newson Health Menopause Society researching the future of Menopause care. We are receiving fantastic feedback from clients on the panel. The one below is illustrative of the feedback coming in: “Thank you so much for bringing the below topic to my attention, I did not realise how profound the impact of this natural stage in our lives can have in real terms e.g. departures from industry, loss of work hours; very educational indeed.
