Gerard Grech is the founding managing director of Founders at the University of Cambridge, a new strategic initiative focused on accelerating the formation and scaling of new deep technology-based companies.
He is the founder, advisor and former Chief Executive of Tech Nation before it was acquired by the Founders Forum Group. Under his leadership, Tech Nation (and previously as Tech City) went on to shape one of EuropeтАЩs most productive digital ecosystem, creating dozens of nationwide programs that helped grow some of BritainтАЩs biggest tech stars, from Monzo to Skyscanner, with over 1300 companies in between.
A third of all tech unicorns ever created in the UKтАЩs history graduated from one of Tech NationтАЩs programs, fuelling a 5x increase in the number of UK cities with a tech unicorn or more and securing the UKтАЩs digital leadership position in Europe.
The company was the 9th fastest growing technology-focused company in the UK public sector in 2022, making a return on state investment of 20x. He was a co-lead of the UK GovernmentтАЩs review on FinTech in 2022, whose recommendations led to the creation of a new Centre for Finance, Technology and Innovation for the UK.
Gerard Grech was appointed CBE in the 2024 British KingтАЩs New Years Honours list for services to technology and also recognised for his outstanding contribution to the FinTech industry at the FinTech Awards London 2023. He is also a member of the UK GovernmentтАЩs Digital Economy Council and the World Economic ForumтАЩs Digital Board.
Gerard Grech has previously worked at the intersection of mobile, digital, media and venture capital in New York, London and Paris, developing groundbreaking products and forging strategic partnerships at Nokia and its venture unit, Nokia Growth Partners, France Telecom, Blackberry and Orange. Previously he was a media journalist and started his career in the music business.
