AMOROSI aka Vanessa Joy Amorosi is an Australian singer songwriter who has sold over 2 million albums worldwide releasing four studio albums, two compilation albums and twenty-one singles.
On her latest album, Amorosi dives deep into the heart of soul and gospel music, that mixed with her love of strong melodies and powerhouse vocals has created her strongest record to date.
The songs for this well thought out collaboration, written with her producer and mentor Eurythmics Dave Stewart, were put together slowly over a period of three years while Vanessa re-invented herself in many ways, bringing her closer to the woman she always strived to be: strong, confident and an artist in charge of her own destiny. What comes across on this, her fifth album, is exactly that.
That sound was recorded at the legendary Willie MitchellтАЩs studio in Memphis Tennessee where Al Green recorded most of his best work. Vanessa even sang on that very same microphone that Al sang all his hits including тАЬLetтАЩs Stay TogetherтАЭ. The musicians Stewart put together for the sessions were legends in themselves playing with Al Green, Isaac Hayes, and many others. Lawrence тАЬBooтАЭ Mitchell was recording engineer (Bruno Mars, Al Green, Solomon Burke, John Mayer).
In addition to the studio sessions, some of the album was recorded in a Memphis church with the fifty piece Tennessee Mass Choir. AmorosiтАЩs heavenly voice blends beautifully with them and it sounds like she was always meant to be there. Later, Vanessa said that it was a moment she will never forget and a dream come true.
These sessions were documented for a movie to be released later in the year that includes a surprising look into AmorosiтАЩs life away from stardom, in Los Angeles.
Her first single, тАЬHave a LookтАЭ went gold in Australia and her second single, тАЬAbsolutely EverybodyтАЭ, an anthemic dance song was certified double platinum and became the longest charting Australian single by an Australian female artist. тАЬAbsolutely EverybodyтАЭ was also released internationally and reached the Top 10 in many European countries including the UK and Germany where it received a gold certification.
AmorosiтАЩs debut album тАЬThe PowerтАЭ reached number one on the Australian album charts and she became the first Australian female artist to reach number one on the national album chart. The Power remained in the top 50 Albums Chart for 62 weeks after itтАЩs release! Amorosi also received six ARIA nominations and The Power was nominated for тАЬBest Female ArtistтАЭ and тАЬBest Pop ReleaseтАЭ in the ARIA Music Awards of 2001. In her career to date Amorosi has had a total of 16 ARIA nominations! (Australian equivalent to the GrammyтАЩs)
Amorosi won the APRA Award in 2001 for тАЬMost Played SongтАЭ on Australian Radio with тАЬShineтАЭ and received international acclaim in Germany where she won тАЬBest International NewcomerтАЭ at the 2001 VIVA Comet Awards.
Amorosi performed at the Sydney Olympics Opening Ceremony and the Paralympics opening and closing ceremonies. She also performed at the Commonwealth Games hand-over ceremony in Manchester in 2002.
AmorosiтАЩs involvement with Kids Help Line and the Variety Club during this period led to a number of honors including a 2003 nomination for Australian of the Year.
Her next Australian album release, тАЬSomewhere In The Real WorldтАЭ, bore the single тАЬPerfectтАЭ which reached Platinum sales and was the most played Australian song on Australian radio for 2008. тАЬPerfectтАЭ was used in the Seven Network for the American show Bionic Woman. It was also used in a commercial campaign for jeans by Calvin Klein in Australia. The track also hit #1 on the Australian iTunes Store on 6 June 2008. тАЬHazardousтАЭ is the fourth studio album by Vanessa Amorosi, released in Australia on 6 November 2009 to critical and commercial success, with Platinum accreditation in Australia.
The albumтАЩs lead single, тАЬThis Is Who I AmтАЭ debuted at number 1 on the ARIA Charts and held the top spot for a second week in a row тАУ becoming the first Australian artist to debut at No. 1 and hold No. 1 single since SilverchairтАЩs тАЬStraight LinesтАЭ in 2007. тАЬ This Is Who I AmтАЭ has achieved 2├Ч platinum sales in Australia making it her most successful single to date in her homeland.
