JEREMY GILLEY – THE MARKETING ACADEMY
27th February 2014
Jeremy’s presentation charts his amazing journey from filmmaker to global peacemaker. On the way he covers his greatest achievements as well as his principal obstacles, he talks through exciting current developments at Peace One Day and shares his remarkable vision for a peaceful and sustainable future.
Jeremy focuses in particular on the role of the corporate sector. Corporations undoubtedly hold the key to raising awareness and dramatically increasing levels of engagement on Peace Day worldwide. Such awareness of Peace Day creates action and that action saves lives, a child will not be bullied, a woman will not be hit, a gun will not be fired.
About Jeremy Gilley:
Jeremy is an actor turned filmmaker, who in the late 1990s became preoccupied with questions about the fundamental nature of humanity and the issue of peace. He decided to explore these by creating a documentary following his campaign to establish an annual day of ceasefire and non-violence. In 1999, Jeremy founded Peace One Day, a non-profit organisation, and in 2001 Peace One Day’s efforts were rewarded when the member states of the United Nations unanimously adopted the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on 21 September – Peace Day.
Throughout the years, millions of people have been active on Peace Day in every country of the world, and hundreds of organisations have carried out life-saving activities in areas of conflict. Notably, Jeremy and Peace One Day ambassador Jude Law travelled to Afghanistan to spearhead a campaign that, over the years, has resulted in 4.5 million children being vaccinated against polio in hitherto unreachable areas, as a result of Peace Day agreements by all parties in the region.
Peace One Day’s objective is to institutionalise Peace Day 21 September, making it a day that is self-sustaining, an annual day of global unity, a day of intercultural cooperation on a scale that humanity has never known
The Peace One Day Corporate Coalition is a group of the world’s leading businesses committed to helping deliver global peace.
